Cottage Cheese Fritters/Paneer Pakoda

We all love to eat fried food with tea or coffee during the rainy season. Pakodas are an all time favourite for Indians as it is easy and quick to make and satisfies our cravings for something that is savoury,crispy and tasty too.

For this recipe you will need

For the Paneer marinade
  • Cottage cheese/ Paneer- 200grams
  • Chilly powder- 1tsp
  • Salt as per taste
  • Mint leaves - 1/4 cup finely chopped
For the batter
  • Besan or Chickpea flour - 100grams
  • Cornflour -3tbsps
  • Cumin powder- 1tsp
  • Coriander powder- 1tsp
  • Chilly powder -1 tsp
  • Grated garlic - 1 tsp
  • Tumeric powder -1tsp
  • Hing - a pinch
  • Salt - as per taste
  • Water as needed
  • Oil for frying

Method

1. Cut the paneer into squares with 1/4 inch of thickness. Coat the paneer well with chilly powder, salt and mint leaves and keep it aside for few minutes.

2. Prepare the batter by mixing all the ingredients together ( besan, cornflour, cumin and coriander powder, chilly powder, tumeric powder, grated garlic,hing and salt.

3.Add water little by little to the batter. Make it into a semi thick batter. The batter should not be too thick nor too thin.

4. Heat enough oil in a heavy bottom pan or kadhai over medium heat.
5. Take the paneer pieces one by one dip into the batter and put into the oil carefully. Fry it until it is golden brown in colour. 




6. Make sure that the oil is not to hot or else the fritters will brown up quickly but will remain uncooked inside.



7. Once the fritters/ pakodas are golden brown on both sides . Take them out onto a kitchen paper, drain out the excess oil and serve it hot and crispy.
Sprinkle some chaat masala over it and enjoy!

The  Cottage fritters/ paneer pakodas 
are ready to be eaten with green chutney or any dipping of your choice.

FYI

 I have used frozen paneer here of Ashirvaad svasti brand. It was really fresh and tasty by its own.

Use good quality besan/ chickpea flour and cornflour.

If there are any leftover batter which I had in my case, simply thinly slice up a potato or onions and use it for making further pakodas.

You can also use the leftover batter to make a chilla .
