The most popular ghugni that we all love to eat sometimes with poori,paratha or even with plain bread. This can also be eaten plain, on its own because it is quite filling and tasty!
It is a simple and easy recipe and hardly takes much time once your ingredients are ready!
Ingredients.
- Whole Yellow Peas (Motor Dal) -200grms
- Boiled Potatoes - 3 small ones(cubed)
- Onion - 1 small onion (diced)
- Ginger garlic paste- 1tbsp
- Tomato- 1 medium size (diced)
- Garam masala powder- 1/2tsp
- Whole cumin seeds- 1/2tsp
- Cumin powder- 1tsp
- Coriander powder -1tsp
- Bay leaf- 1
- Red Chilly powder- 1tsp
- Tumeric powder-1/2tsp
- Oil- 3tbsps
- Coriander leaves- Chopped(handful)
- Salt -as needed
Method
- Firstly soak and keep the yellow whole peas (motor dal) overnight or for atleast 6-7hours
- Boil the dal with little water,1tsp salt and tumeric powder in the pressure cooker . Pressure cook for 3 whistles or until done well.
- Heat oil in a pan. Add whole cumin seeds and bay leaf (tej patta) . After 2 seconds add the chopped onion and saute until golden brown.
- Add the ginger garlic paste and cook for around 3 minutes until the raw smell goes away .Next add in the diced tomatoes and the cumin powder,coriander powder,chilly powder,1/2 tsp tumeric powder. Cook until the tomatoes have become soft and oil seperates. Add salt as per taste.
- Now add the cubed boiled potatoes and the yellow peas. Cook it well along with the masala for about 5 mins.
- Now add 1 glass of water to it to make the gravy. Stir occasionally until it comes to a boil. Once its thick put off the flame.
- Garnish and serve with chopped coriander/cilantro leaves.
- Enjoy with a dash of lime, chopped cucumber and onions.
- Your "ghugni" is ready!
